Second Year of Support for 2026 Be Inspired Cup

28 girls from four Cheshire primary schools took part in the second Girls Only Be Inspired Cup, most of them hadn't played squash before.

The Girls Only Be Inspired Cup returned to Macclesfield Leisure Centre in September for its second year, with the finals held during Women's Squash Week.

Organised by Chris Ogden of Inspire Squash Academy and supported by Girls In Motion with funding for female squash coaches an prizes, the cup is a team competition for girls in Years 5 and 6. This year 28 girls played in seven teams of four, over two Thursdays.

Every point counted:

The girls learned the basics from coaches [mostly female: check], then played for their teams. Every point a girl won went into her team's total, so even a game she lost could still help her team.

That made for a close finish. Newcomers Alderley Edge Community Primary School just beat last year's winners, Prestbury CofE Primary School, to lift the cup.

What happens next:

Of the two girls who already played regularly, one only took up squash after last year's Be Inspired Cup. That's the part we care about most: not just a great day, but girls who keep playing afterwards.

This year there's a clear next step:

  • At least 8 girls have already registered their interest in playing more squash

  • Three free taster sessions will run in schools this academic year

  • A fully funded 11-week girls-only programme starts after October half-term

  • Girls In Motion are also funding free places for girls from the cup at Inspire's two Halloween squash camps in October 2026

Thank you

Thank you to Chris and Inspire Squash Academy for a brilliantly organised event, to the schools and teachers who brought their teams, and to the parents who came to watch. The response from pupils, parents and schools has been incredibly positive.
